The Self-Portrait Redefined

"Self-Portrait (reddish background)"
With this piece I wanted to combine the modern experience of video with the classical feeling of figurative painting. When I initially look at a painting I notice the skill of the painter and then I'm left with the subject. I think about who they were and what the painter must of thought of them.
With that in mind I "upgraded" my painting to include my living face juxtaposed with my painted face. The voice is my own, relating three or four different stories, cut up and presented asynchronously. The music was an original instrumental I created that, until this piece was made, didn't have a home. These elements combined provide a the viewer experiences a multi-sensory approximation of the person in the portrait. In this way the viewer gets a quick feel of the subject, not the whole story, like in a classical painting.
