Portraits
The human figure is so complex and the personalities of the people I paint are equally so. As such, I don’t spend time trying to “interpret” my subjects but rather, just paint what I see. Oil paint straight from the tube has a buttery and thick quality and since I don’t use mediums, my palette knife and brushstrokes are visible. The lines end up bringing out forms within the light and dark patterns. For me it’s a matter of seeing the abstract shapes within the planes of the body and putting it down accurately on canvas.
