About the Artist
Born in Boston, Rudy developed a serious pursuit of the human form at the Art Students League of New York, studying painting with Mary Beth McKenzie and anatomy with Frank Porcu.
This strict investigation of shape and form are visible in his figurative work and also appear in his approach to still life. In 2012 he was invited to be part of the multi-artist sculpture group, FreeForm NYC, that resulted in a site-specific installation in the Governor's Island Art Fair. Also that year his paintings were awarded two merit scholarships by the National Academy Museum and School in a juried competition. In 2013 he was awarded the Yasuo Kuniyoshi scholarship and became an artist-in-residence at the Art Students League's residency program in upstate New York.
His works have been in group exhibitions in New York and, through an invitation from artist Minako Yoshino, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in Japan. His paintings are in private collections in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, and the Netherlands.
Mr. Bravo's short films combine a preternatural sense of narrative with a keen editing eye for brevity sought after by modern, web-based audiences. He has documented, in various films, the Art Students League of New York including the inaugural year of the popular Model to Monument Program. Images from this film work have appeared in the New York Daily News, American Artist Magazine, Public Art Review Magazine, and Fox 5 News in New York. Additionally, his films have been exhibited in New York at the Consulate-General of Japan and in Switzerland.
Rudy lives and works in New York City.
