Discovering Human Anatomy
Écorché means "flayed" and is a method of sculpture (or painting) that depicts the internal parts of the body beginning with the skeletal structure and later layering muscles on top. The development of this 1/3 scale écorché model, with bone in red plasteline and muscle in green, aids in the understanding of the planar structure that lies beneath the skin when painting from life.
